A proud new chapter begins in the history of ACTOM Training Centre as it officially becomes an accredited Trade Test Centre (TTC), marking the first time in nearly five decades that it can conduct trade testing on-site.
Established in 1976 at ACTOM (Pty) Ltd Benoni site, the training centre has long been a cornerstone in the development of skilled artisans. Over the years, it has built a reputation for delivering comprehensive institutional training that combines in-depth theoretical lessons with practical, hands-on experience.
With its new accreditation, ACTOM Training Centre now functions as a comprehensive one-stop training hub, offering the complete artisan development pathway under one umbrella. Apprentices can smoothly progress from institutionalised training to practical on-the-job training within ACTOM (Pty) Ltd divisions and Network Partners, through to trade test assessments and ultimately the official trade test itself.
Until now, ACTOM Training Centre apprentices had to complete their trade tests externally. With this milestone, the entire process can now be carried out in-house, ensuring consistency, quality, and a direct link between training and industry standards.
The accreditation authorises ACTOM Training Centre to deliver and assess the following occupational trades:
· Electrician
· Millwright
· Metal Machinist
· Fitter & Turner
· Mechanical Fitter
This achievement not only recognises ACTOM’s long-standing commitment to artisan development but also strengthens its position as a leading hub for technical training and industry-aligned skills advancement.
Under the visionary leadership of Kobus Swanepoel, the training centre continues to evolve, setting new benchmarks in quality, innovation, and relevance. Swanepoel’s dedication to advancing technical education has driven the centre to new heights, ensuring that ACTOM remains at the forefront of producing highly skilled, work-ready artisans.
“This milestone is far more than just an accreditation; it represents our unwavering commitment to empowering learners, upholding industry standards, and producing artisans of the highest quality,” said Kobus Swanepoel, Head of the ACTOM Training Centre.
Swanepoel further states, “ACTOM Training Centre, we don’t just aim to meet industry standards; we strive to set the benchmark for excellence in technical training. Every apprentice who passes through our doors is equipped not only with the necessary skills but also with the confidence, discipline, and craftsmanship to perform at a world-class standard. Our goal is to develop artisans who embody precision, professionalism, and pride in their work — the true measure of quality in any trade.”
As ACTOM Training Centre enters this new era, it remains committed to nurturing talent, fostering transformation, and supporting the sustainable growth of South Africa’s industrial sectors, a legacy that began in 1976 at Benoni and now continues stronger than ever.
